Admiralty ECDIS Training Sessions

July 10, 2012

Winning mariners of the first 50 ECDIS training places awarded by Admiralty to start training in maritime colleges worldwide

A second draw, to award a further 50 ECDIS training courses, will take place in September 2012. Mariners can enter via the campaign website or the Admiralty Facebook page.

This campaign offers qualified bridge officers, of international trading ships, the chance to win a place on a generic ECDIS training course based on the IMO Model Course 1.27 (Operational use of ECDIS).

The training campaign is part of a series of ‘Digital Navigation Insights’ initiatives designed to help the maritime community safely and successfully integrate digital navigation into ship and shore-side operations.

Asking mariners who entered the promotion for their views on ECDIS, feedback showed that bridge officers believe the most important benefit of digital navigation will be improved maritime safety, with the second most important benefit being greater efficiency on board. They also recognise the need to complete ECDIS training to secure a job at sea, with 86 per cent of respondents saying it’'s vital or quite important.
