Wrecked 'Russian Submarine' Found in Swedish Waters

A wrecked mini-submarine was found last week in waters off of Sweden’s eastern coast.
Authorities believe it is a Russian model, primarily because of Cyrillic letters on the hull. They have not disclosed the exact location of the wreckage, but say it is around 1.5 nautical miles from the Swedish coast.
Ocean X Team, the company behind the discovery, said on its website: “It is unclear how old the submarine is and for how long it has been at the bottom of the sea, but the Cyrillic letters on the hull indicate that it is Russian.”
Swedish Armed Forces spokesman Anders Kallin did not say whether the military also believed it was a Russian submarine.
"We choose not to comment on it before we have seen more material. We will continue the analysis together with the company in the coming days," Kallin said.
According to Stefan Hogeborn, a diver from the Ocean X Team, “It is unclear how old the submarine is and how long it has been laying at the sea floor, but the Cyrillic letters on the hull indicate that it is Russian.”
Last year, Sweden's military were engaged in an extensive hunt for a suspected Russian submarine. Naval vessels and planes were involved in the search in the Stockholm archipelago in October, but the operation was called off after one week.
