Transas supples a simulator to the training centre of Arktikmorneftegazrazvedka in Russia.

The system has been designed for training of personnel operating cranes offshore on the Arctic shelf.

The platform intended for the operation of the cranes is the Prirazlomnaya platform (the first Arctic-class ice-resistant oil platform in the world) to be used as an offshore platform prototype.

The crane simulator models control systems, hydraulics and crane interrior arrangement (systems and components) and an instructor can introduce faults in hydraulics and systems which enables troubleshooting mode of training.

The core of the simulator is its math model that provides utmost realism. Arctic harsh conditions impose certain restrictions on operations, for that reason special attention was paid to modelling environment and model interaction (temperature, wind, wave etc.) which makes training truly realistic; features that apply both to oil platform and a supply vessel.

Training with the simulator can be brought one step forward by interconnection of a navigational simulator and offshore crane simulator. Thus, joint training of vessel and offshore oil personnel can be coordinated.

Cargo handling at offshore platforms is associated with high complexity of operations and significant risks. Training of crane handling skills and especially work in troubleshooting mode that are provided by the simulator are vital for ensuring safety of offshore operations.
