Topaz Wins CSR Initiative Award

July 11, 2011

Topaz Energy and Marine, an oilfield services group has won an award for the ‘Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative in the Private Sector’ from IIR Middle East. The award was presented at the 8th CSR Summit in Dubai where entrants are judged on their ability to demonstrate a clear commitment to CSR that goes beyond their financial and legal obligations. Topaz was nominated for the award by The Angel Appeal, an initiative launched by the maritime charity ‘Mission to Seafarers’. The Angel Appeal built and equipped a seafarer support vessel, The Flying Angel, in 2006. The vessel provides the thousands of sailors who are stationed off the coast of Fujairah contact with the outside world after long periods of isolation at sea. The Flying Angel supports the mariners with amenities that most of us take for granted, such as communicating with loved ones via phones and the internet, library resources and someone to talk to.
Today, the Flying Angel, still the only seafarer’s support vessel of its kind, welcomes over 75 seafarers on board daily. Topaz has supported The Flying Angel in covering full operating costs since 2008 and is proud be part of this important initiative and to contribute to the improvement of the lives of mariners by supporting the Mission to Seafarers.
