Swire Oilfield Services Appoints New Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technical Officer.
Swire Oilfield Services (Swire), the leading global supplier of cargo carrying solutions, modular systems, offshore aviation services and fluid management has appointed two new members to its executive team. Richard Sell joins as chief operating officer (COO) and Peter Ellington as chief technical officer (CTO).
Based at the company’s headquarters in Aberdeen, Mr Sell has moved from Swire Group sister company, China Navigation Co. Pte. Ltd (CNCo) in Singapore, where he was responsible for running its bulk logistics business, bulk shipping trade and managing CNCo’s chartering, sale and purchase of vessels.
During his three years with the company, he was responsible for the commercial aspects of CNCo’s new build programme, which is the largest in its recent history. Prior to joining CNCo, Mr Sell spent 10 years with Cathay Pacific in a variety of roles in Hong Kong, Asia Pacific and Europe.
Mr Sell will be responsible for continuing and developing Swire’s strong growth of approximately 20% this year. He will focus on widening the company’s product offering and further developing its global footprint. He is replacing Rupert Bray who has taken on a new role as marine service director for another sister company in the wider Swire Group, Swire Pacific Offshore and will be based at its headquarters in Singapore.
Peter Ellington has joined from from international oilfield services company Expro in Aberdeen and brings a wealth of experience from different managerial roles in the group. He has taken the lead in multiple international projects and was recently in a role as service delivery manager.
A mechanical engineer with an MBA, Mr Ellington has gained his experience through design engineering and project management in different companies, including Baker Oil Tools and Weatherford.
In his new role he will be responsible for Swire’s procurement and engineering functions. In addition to the asset management function of the company´s growing fleet.
Swire Oilfield Services is continuing its global investment program with close to £100 million spent on rental assets and supporting infrastructure this year. Globally, Swire Oilfield Services has in excess of 150 standard unit designs, a fleet of more than 55,000 cargo carrying units and supports the world’s largest fleet of DNV 2.7-1 and EN 12079 rated equipment.

Peter Ellington has just recently started in his new role and Richard Sell´s appointment takes effect from September 10, 2012.
