Hart Fenton & Company Benefit from Apprentice Scheme

October 10, 2011

Ship designers Hart, Fenton & Company have announced that sixteen year old Lauren Rutherford has joined their team through the Apprenticeships at Work scheme.  Lauren is the first Apprentice the company has engaged with as part of its commitment to supporting skills in Portsmouth’s marine industry.

In her role as an Apprentice Marine Draughtsperson, Lauren will work with Hart, Fenton & Company’s CAD designers as they create vessel and equipment designs for some of the UK’s leading marine organisations.   She will also attend Portsmouth’s award winning Highbury College for day release training in Performing Engineering Operations and Shipbuilding during the twelve month programme. Starting her career in this way, explained Lauren, means she has the benefit of hands on, professional experience and the prospect of long term employment while she studies. Mike Simpson, Managing Director of Hart, Fenton & Company explained this is precisely what attracted him to the scheme. “We benefit directly as not only will  Lauren contribute as her technical skills increase over time, but her understanding of the reality of the ship design business will grow too.” Hart, Fenton & Company provide Naval Architecture, Ship Design and Marine Engineering Consultancy from offices in Portsmouth. The company’s clients benefit from access to significant technical expertise and operational experience – delivered through a proven methodology, a pride in quality and a genuine sense of partnership. http://www.hart-fenton.com/
