Yara Marine to Deliver 6 Scrubbers for LPG Carriers

January 15, 2015

Yara Marine Technologies (former Green Tech Marine) – a world leading scrubber supplier – has won a contract to deliver 6 exhaust gas cleaning systems (“scrubbers”) to an undisclosed ship-owner in 2015. The vessels are currently under construction at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Korea, and will be supplied to the owner in 2016. The vessels will be trading mainly in the North European ECAs (North Sea and Baltics).

By using the Green Tech Marine® scrubbers, ship owners can continue to operate on heavy fuel oil instead of more costly marine gas oil, still complying with the strict IMO requirements regarding sulphur emission. Even though bunker prices follow the general decrease of oil prices, marine gas oil is still roughly twice the cost of heavy fuel oil (average, source Bunker World Fuel Prices 2 January 2015) giving large economic incentives for scrubbers.

The scrubber systems will replace the ships silencers. Thanks to the small size of the scrubbers, no valuable cargo space has to be sacrificed. Due to the low weight of the scrubbers, the stability of the ships will not be effected.

“Ship owners are beginning to realize that exhaust gas cleaning systems is the most economical solution for meeting low sulfur emissions requirements. Our Green Tech Marine® scrubbers are now proving their value onboard Cruise-, RoPax- and Cargo vessels around the globe”, says Kai Låtun, VP Sales and Marketing, Yara Marine Technologies.
