Victoria Celebrates Six Millionth Cruise Ship Passenger

July 30, 2015

Two tourists  -Victoria and Joseph Winthal - disembarking the Golden Princess Cruise Ship in Ogden Point have got an unexpected surprise.

They were selected by Greater Victoria Harbour Authority as the six millionth cruise ship passenger to Ogden Point. To celebrate, the couple were given a variety of prizes donated by local businesses, and free admission to several tourist attractions.

Victoria AM volunteers in traditional old-fashioned costumes were on hand as always to greet ship passengers.

“Victoria is Canada’s busiest cruise ship port of call, and we wouldn’t have been able to welcome more than six million without the help of many in our community,” said Ian Robertson, CEO of the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority.

“This is a great day for Victoria, a great day for tourism and a great day for the economy of Greater Victoria,” Robertson said.

“I’m very proud to bring the six millionth passenger,” adds Capt. Vincenzo Lubrano of the Golden Princess. “I’ve been in Victoria many times and it’s always been good weather and it’s a good break from Alaska.”
