New EU Secretary Director for Danish Shipping

November 29, 2018

On 1 January 2019, Jens Valdemar Krenchel will take up the position as Head of EU Representation for Danish Shipping at the  the EU office in Brussels, where Danish Shipping has been represented since 1989.

At the same time, he will join the management team of Danish Shipping as Head of the organisation's EU Representation, which employs a team of four. He takes over from Casper Andersen, who has left Danish Shipping.

"I am pleased to welcome Jens in The Blue Denmark. Jens is a capacity with considerable insights into EU relations. Jens will be a strong voice for Danish shipping in Brussels. Shipping is Denmark's largest export sector and the most global industry, which is why shipping companies are constantly dependent on international and competitive framework conditions. In this context, Jens will play an important role in securing Denmark’s and the EU's position as maritime power stations," says Anne H. Steffensen, Director General and CEO of Danish Shipping.

Jens Valdemar Krenchel is attorney-at-law with his master in law from the University of Copenhagen. He has previously been acting High Court judge in the High Court of Eastern Denmark (Østre Landsret) and has been head of the Association of Danish Mortgage Banks - and after the merger FinanceDenmark’s - Brussels Office for almost 10 years, most recently as EU Director.

In the wake of the global financial crisis, he has contributed to ensuring that the Danish mortgage credit system continues to exist and is in the process of having its own EU law.

"Danish shipping has, if possible, greater significance for Denmark than what the mortgage sector has for the real estate market. I am therefore proud to become part of Danish Shipping and I will continue the close dialogue with actors and policy makers in Brussels and the rest of Europe with great humility. It is my focus that Danish shipping is constantly being strengthened both internationally and globally," says Jens Valdemar Krenchel, future Head of Danish Shipping’s EU Representation.

Prior to this, Jens was, among other things, employed by DI – Confederation of Danish Industry, where one of his key issues was to maintain Danish companies' special ownership structure with Class A shares and Class B shares.

Jens Valdemar Krenchel is 47, married to Dorthe and father of two adult children; Cecilie and Christopher. In his spare time, Jens is a passionate hunter.
