NUSI Named ‘Welfare Organization of the Year’

India shipping trade union National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) informs it has been honored with the 'Best Welfare Organization of the Year - 2015' award promoted by U.K. based International Seafarers' Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN). ISWAN promotes the welfare of seafarers worldwide.
 
The award promoted by ISWAN was presented to NUSI General Secretary-cum-Treasurer, Abdulgani Y Serang by Secretary General of International Maritime Organization (IMO), Koji Sekimizu at a function held at the premises of IMO in London on June 9, 2015.
 
Organizations like Associated Marine Officers and Seamen's Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP), Hunterlink Recovery Services (Australia), National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) and Trinity House (UK) were shorlisted by ISWAN for the award.
 
The judging panel constituted for the award included President of the International Shipping Federation and International Chamber of Shipping, Masamichi Morooka; General Secretary of the International Transport Workers' Federation, Steve Cotton; Chairman of the International Christian Maritime Association, Fr Bruno Ciceri and British journalist and author, Rose George.
 
NUSI was selected by the jury for the award recognizing the Union's  excellence in providing welfare services and facilities for the seafarers.
 
Expressing gratitude for the honor bestowed upon by ISWAN to NUSI, Abdulgani Y Serang said, "NUSI has a long history of dedication and commitment towards the welfare of seafarers and their families. This respectable award has further motivated us to strive hard with passion and enthusiasm."
