Horizon Lines Names Vice President for Puerto Rico

San Juan - Horizon Lines Inc. has named Richard Rodriguez, Vice President and General Manager, Puerto Rico. In this new role, Rodriguez will be responsible for all on-island sales and operations activity, local labor, security, as well as government relations. Formerly, he was Port Manager in San Juan for the company.
Rodriguez reports to Brian Taylor, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
"Richard spent his entire career in the Puerto Rico logistics arena," Taylor said. "In his new position, Richard will combine more than two decades of local market experience with Horizon Lines' 54-year commitment to continue providing our Puerto Rico customers with the service excellence they have come to expect from Horizon Lines."
Rodriguez joined Sea-Land, Horizon Lines' predecessor, in 1993, coming from Meteoro Express, a non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC), where he was President. At Sea-Land, he was initially appointed Equipment Control Supervisor, rising quickly to other supervisory and management positions. Mr. Rodriguez was named Port Manager in 1999. Among his career milestones, he led Horizon Lines' recovery from the Hurricane George aftermath in 1998 and managed the $19.1 million port development project over the past seven years.
