TDI Expands in Dayton

September 14, 2009

At a time when many companies are scaling back, Tech Development (TDI), a Dayton, Ohio manufacturer of turbine air starters and aerospace machinery has just completed a 49,000 sq. ft building addition to expand its manufacturing capability.

“We’ve experienced tremendous sales growth over the last five years,” said Dave Rawlins TDI Site Manager, “We’ve needed the additional space for a long time to meet market demands from the oil and gas industry and marine industries, and now we have it.”

The 49,000 sq. ft addition doubles the manufacturing floor space for TDI.  “The additional space allows us to improve efficiencies by creating cellularized work areas and an overall better work flow in the plant,” continued Rawlins.  “As the space is fully operational we will have the room to conduct on site service training for our authorized distributors, increase throughput, shorten lead times, and strengthen our overall competitiveness in the market.”

In 2008, when facility construction began, TDI was celebrating its 50-year anniversary.   Over the last 12 months, the company has introduced nine new products and has plans for even more.  “The completion of this building expansion is pivotal to TDI’s growth strategy,” said Rawlins. “It will allow us to deliver significantly more starters, expand our aerospace production capability, and continue our leadership by introducing new products for our customers around the world.  Today is a milestone!”
