China Navigation Orders Geared Bulk Carriers

December 19, 2012

China Navigation Company orders four 39,500 dwt Deltamarin designed B.Delta37 handysize bulkcarriers from Chengxi Shipyard in China.

Following an initial order placed in March this year, CNCo has now contracted a total of 8 B.Delta37 vessels scheduled for delivery between August 2013 and December 2014. CNCo and Chengxi have also agreed to an additional 8 options to be declared in 2013.

This order represents a significant commitment by the Company in the energy efficient B.Delta37 design which offers lower fuel consumption, additional cargo deadweight and greater cargo cubic capacity compared to the best existing designs.

The vessels will be deployed in CNCo’s drybulk division, Swire Bulk, and will operate on a worldwide basis.

The vessels feature five double skin cargo holds and are designed to carry bulk cargoes, grain, coal, concentrates, logs, heavy general cargo, steel coils, steel slabs and a wide variety of heavy project cargoes.

The tanktops are specifically strengthened for heavy cargoes and all holds have double skin hydraulic folding hatch covers and forced draft fans for cargo care.

Four electric deck cranes are mounted on the centerline, each rated at 30 tons at maximum outreach of 26 m. All cranes can be combined for a maximum lift of 60 tons.
