Pipavav Port Resumes Operations

June 30, 2015

Gujarat Pipavav Port (APM Terminals Pipavav) has resumed operations following improvement in weather conditions.

Last week, the port operations were suspended due to the cyclonic weather conditions and breakdown of power supply and communication.

Thousands of containers, majority of them, bound for northern states, have piled up at the port.

The port announced on Sunday that the operations have been resumed following the improvement in the weather conditions. It also said that both the port officials and the railways are working round the clock to start the rail movements again at the earliest.

Pipavav Port is the first PPP port in the country and owned by the AP Moller-Maersk Group.

Restoration of the badly-damaged railway track that connects Pipavav Port with Surendranagar began. The floods have damaged a section of the rail line connecting the port to Surendranagar.

"Certain sections of the railway line connecting Pipavav to Surendranagar have been damaged causing suspension of rail movement to and from the port. Port officials along with Indian Railways are working round the clock to resume the rail movement at the earliest," the company said.

The port said its officials and the railways are working round-the-clock to resume the rail movement at the earliest.
