Iran, Oman Sign Maritime Agreement

 

Zarif discussed with his Omani counterpart on Tuesday how to advance peace efforts in Yemen, including implementing a ceasefire, setting up talks between warring factions and how to get aid in. 

 

The agency quoted Zarif as saying: "Iran and Oman want peace, security and stability in the region and have shared interests in this regard."

 

According to the news agency, the two sides hailed the "spirit of understanding" that pervaded the talks.

 

The delimitation of the border between Tehran and Muscat is the first after Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution.

 

In a press statement, both ministers emphasized that the border delimitation agreement was signed in Muscat in a background of historical relations between Islamic Republic of Iran and Sultanate of Oman and on the principle of good neighborliness and mutual respect, understanding and cooperation. 

 

The statement also held that the agreement was product of ‘fruitful efforts and cooperation in delimiting maritime borders in compliance with international regulations on place and the principles of justice to guarantee the rights of both sides.’ 

 

“Upon signing of the statement, both countries appreciate the friendship atmosphere of the negotiations in different diplomatic level in border delimitation,” said the statement, “and believe the delimitation will be source of heavenly blessings for both nations and other countries in the region.”
