NORDEN to Ship Road Salt from Chile to US
NORDEN has entered into a 10-year contract effective 2020-2029 for the transportation of 4-5 million metric tons of road salt to be loaded in Caleta Patillos 1,400 kilometers north of the Chilean capital Santiago and discharged primarily on the American East Coast in ports between Boston and Baltimore. Road salt – or rock salt – will be carried on Supramax vessels. The contract covers 8-10 voyages per year of 50,000 metric tons each. A voyage is expected to take approximately 30 days and the vessels will pass through the Panama Canal to get from the South American West Coast to U.S.

APM Terminals Tacoma Ends Lease
APM Terminals Tacoma concluded its operations on September 30, 2017, ahead of the December 31, 2017 lease expiration date, transferring the lease to Seattle-based SSA Marine who formed a new joint venture with Matson Lines, called SSAT, starting operations October 2, 2017. Cummins Reports Revenue Jump in Q2 2014
Cummins Inc. reported its results for the second quarter of 2014. According to the report, second quarter revenue of $4.8 billion increased 7 percent from the same quarter in 2013. The increase year-over-year was driven by stronger demand in on-highway markets and distributor acquisitions in North America. Revenues in North America increased 14 percent while international sales decreased 1 percent compared to the second quarter a year ago. Within international markets, lower revenues in Mexico, Brazil and India offset stronger demand in China.
Swiss Re Establishes North America Marine Team
Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has expanded its marine business by opening a North America marine office. Beginning October 1, 2015, the New York-based team will provide ocean cargo insurance, with additional products to follow, the company said. Leading the marine North America team will be Graeme Schultz, who brings 18 years of industry experience to the role. Swiss Re Corporate Solutions said the new marine team will support its regional North American clients, enabling better service to midsized-to-large manufacturers, importers, exporters and logistics providers, among others.

Port of Savannah Moves 1 Mln TEUs in Q1
The Port of Savannah moved more than 1 million twenty-foot equivalent container units across Garden City Terminal in the first quarter of FY2018 (July 1-Sept. 30), growing by 5.8 percent or 55,629 TEUs over the same period in FY17. In September alone, the GPA moved 325,141 TEUs, an increase of 5.4 percent or 16,792 TEUs compared to the same month last year. "Sustained organic growth coupled with increased market share are driving these volume increases," said GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch.
