USCG Medevacs Elderly Cruise Ship Passenger

The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced an 81-year-old man from the cruise ship, Norwegian Getaway, Monday approximately 44 miles southeast of Marathon, Fla.

The crew of the Norwegian Getaway notified Coast Guard 7th District watchstanders at approximately 11:50 p.m. Sunday of an 81-year-old man aboard the cruise ship suffering from heart attack-like symptoms.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Key West 45-foot Response Boat—Medium crew who arrived on scene, embarked the individual and transferred him ashore to awaiting local emergency medical services. He has since been transferred to Lower Keys Medical Center.
