ABB Turbocharging to attend upcoming 27th CIMAC World Congress on Combustion Engine Technology in Shangai, China.
The World Congress, from 13-16, May 2013, is held once every three years and constitutes CIMAC’s major, most forward-looking, influential event. This year, the CIMAC World Congress is being hosted by CIMAC’s Chinese national member association, Chinese Society of Internal Combustion Engines (CSICE). China is the world’s fastest-growing producer of engines, and this year’s Congress is expected to shed new insights into Chinese engine development and its underlying drivers.
This year, ABB Turbocharging will present its most cutting-edge, innovative technology, including its new A200-L turbochargers, two-stage turbocharging model Power2®, and Valve Control Management (VCM®), a variable valve training system that manages the air in a turbocharger actively.
“We’re presenting technologies that we think are going to change the way people use turbochargers to power their engines, such as VCM, which makes it possible to run a ship at different loads much more flexibly, with lower NOx emissions, greater fuel efficiency and increased power density on four- stroke diesel and gas engines,” said Axel Kettmann, Senior Vice President. “And all of those benefits speak directly to the challenges that our customers are now facing in this very challenging, very resource-driven market.
The “Congrès International des Monteurs a Combustion Interne,” (English: International Council on Combustion Engines), or CIMAC, as the organization is more widely known, was founded in the post- WWII era when the need to rebuild and grow fueled a huge demand for energy. The combustion engine was viewed as an instrumental component for providing that energy wherever it was needed. The need for development was urgent, and little was known about what was happening on the international front, so the CIMAC was formed as a forum for comparing, contrasting, learning from one another and shaping the future of the combustion engine industry together. Today, the organization is over 60 years old and boasts organizational members from 28 countries and several industries, including engine manufacturers and users, suppliers, fuel and lubricant companies, research organizations, classification societies, and renown universities.
