SUNY Maritime College said it has recognized nearly one third of its student body for last semester’s hard work and academic achievements.

In all, 344 students were honored for making the college dean’s list, which requires a grade-point average between a 3.0 and 3.49; and 183 students were honored for making the admiral’s list, which requires a GPA of at least 3.5.

“You have accepted the challenge to do more with your academic careers,” said Joseph Hoffman, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. “I would like to congratulate all who earned academic honors for the spring term and I would also like to thank you for raising the bar with your performance in our classrooms.”

In addition to working to earn a bachelor’s degree, many students at SUNY Maritime also study for a U.S. Coast Guard license, which qualifies them to work on marine vessels and requires a much heavier credit load each semester. Before graduating from SUNY Maritime, license students take a sequence of seven or eight Coast Guard exams. Hoffman also recognized the 31 students who passed all of their exams on the first try.

The students were recognized at the college’s academic stars with faculty, staff and administrators.
