No Navigation Risk from Sunk Ship: MPA

June 7, 2019

The wreck of the Dominica-flagged supply vessel, OCEAN COOPER 2 that sank near Pedra Branca does not pose a risk to the safety of navigation in the area, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

According to MPA, capsized and sank within Singapore Territorial Waters in the Singapore Strait on 14 February 2019.

No oil pollution was reported at the time of the incident and all three Indonesian crew members were rescued without injuries.

MPA has since completed a hydrographic survey of the wreck site. The wreck is located at Latitude 1⁰20.030’N and Longitude 104⁰21.409’E, and is 41m below the sea surface.

This is significantly deeper than the deepest draught of transiting vessels (which is 22m below the sea surface).

MPA has determined that the wreck does not pose a risk to the safety of navigation and will not affect shipping traffic in the area.

"MPA will update its nautical charts to indicate the location of the wreck, and issue a Notice to Mariners to keep the maritime community updated," said the statement.
