The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) brings to HK its free-attendance workshop on ECDIS regulations and procedures.
This free workshop will present the "Admiralty Guide to policy and procedures for the operational use of ECDIS" and will provide expert guidance on the regulatory requirements governing the adoption of ECDIS, as well as the onboard safety management systems and bridge procedures required to fulfill SOLAS carriage obligations.
These workshops will benefit anyone involved in managing the integration of ECDIS into their ships, including managers, owners, ship personnel, regulators and auditors. Following on from the UKHO’s highly regarded Digital Integration Workshops, which provided a nine-stage guide to planning for the ECDIS transition, this new workshop will offer more detailed advice on compliance with ECDIS regulations, as well as allowing plenty of time for discussions with the UKHO team and answering any questions from delegates.
Held in association with the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, the workshop is taking place at the United Conference Center in Hong Kong from 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4. It will be hosted by Guy Edwards, Head of Admiralty Asia Pacific, and led by Captain Paul Hailwood, a Master Mariner and internationally respected expert on ECDIS and integrated bridge operations.
Captain Hailwood commented, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring our workshop to Hong Kong, one of the world’s busiest ports and a global shipping hub, and to offer our expertise on the challenges surrounding ECDIS regulations and bridge procedures. The legal requirements for ECDIS compliance can appear complex and vary according to interpretation. Our workshop will provide a checklist of the items required by international standards that will help shipping companies to prepare for inspections and third-party audits, as well as identifying the hazards associated with the operation of ECIDS and the appropriate control measures to mitigate those risks.”
