The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) presented its inaugural “SCA Maritime Leadership Award” to shipbuilding and repair advocate, Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R) from Virginia’s Fourth District.

The award was presented Thursday, April 11, during SCA’s annual general membership dinner at the Ritz Carlton, Pentagon City.

"Congressman Forbes has been a tireless advocate for a stronger shipbuilding and repair industry and a friend to the Shipbuilders Council of America.  As past Chairman of the House Armed Services (HASC) Readiness Subcommittee and present chairman of the HASC Seapower subcommittee, he uniquely understands the critical role this industry plays in securing America’s national and economic security. Congressman Forbes is also a tremendous supporter of the Jones Act, a vital law to the U.S. maritime industry, which ensures the skilled workforce and mariners in the US shipyard industrial base and merchant marine" said SCA President, Matthew Paxton.

The SCA Maritime Leadership Award was established in 2013 by the Shipbuilders Council of America.  Representing more than 135 members of the shipbuilding industry, including new construction and repair yards, the supply chain and industry service providers, the Association intends to present this award annually as the industry's highest recognition of an individual who has demonstrated consistent, outstanding, and inspirational leadership in fighting for a stronger shipbuilding and repair industry.
