ClassNK's Structural Rules for Bulkers & Tankers

March 1, 2015

The Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) has announced the establishment of its “Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tanker” (Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships Part CSR-B&T) on 27 February 2015. These new technical rules were developed in response to adoption of the “Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Tankers” by IACS. The requirements in Part CSR-B&T apply to both bulk carriers 90 meters or longer and oil tankers 150 meters or longer whose contracts for construction are dated on or after 1 July 2015.

In addition to the above, other relevant parts of the ClassNK Rules and Guidance for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships are also amended on 27 February 2015, to reflect the establishment of Part CSR-B&T.

For general outlines of each of the above, please refer to the attached “Outline of Amendments issued on 27 February 2015”. For more detailed information, however, please check the “Rule Amendments for Technical Rules” sections after logging in to your “My Page” account.
