Bibby Ship Management (WE) Ltd., part of Bibby Line Group, informs its employees Sandra Corrigan and Nicky Davenport will embark on a trekking and camping challenge in the Grand Canyon as part of a challenge to fundraise for charity.

Corrigan, raising funds Hospice Isle of Man, and Davenport, raising funds for the Isle of Man Sea Cadets, will walk 10-15 miles each day in 80 degrees heat, camping in a Native American camp site by night.

In 2007, Bibby Line Group began the ‘Giving Something Back’ program for its employees, an initiative aiming to harness the passion of its people and support them to fundraise and volunteer for the charities they choose. The program offers opportunities for employees across Bibby’s businesses to come together, to complete fundraising challenges and legacy projects in the U.K. and abroad.

The program sees participants raise money for their chosen charities, in this case £1,750, which is then match funded by Bibby Line Group. The match funding element pays for the travel, transfers and guides. However travel from the Isle of Man to London has to be paid for by Corrigan and Davenport, and they must provide their own equipment.

Corrigan and Davenport also must take time from their annual leave allowance to take part in the challenge, however they both see this as an opportunity to stretch themselves and step out of their comfort zone.

“The priority is to raise as much as we can for our chosen charities,” Corrigan said, “therefore this challenge is a win, win for us both.”

Every penny Corrigan and Davenport raise is donated to their charities, which they felt was important to point out. Both women have supported Hospice before.

Corrigan was on the reserve list for this event and only discovered two weeks ago after someone else dropped out that she had a place. She has until August 17 to raise the minimum donation of £1,750.

As part of their fundraising efforts, Corrigan and Davenport have also organized a bake sale and raffle at Bibby’s office Friday, August 7, along with a table at the Onchan Community Centre Car Boot Sale on Sunday August 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
