Trial Operation for New Suez Canal to Begin This Week

The CEO of the New Suez Canal’s dredging works Wagdy Zaki has said that all preparations have been made to start the trial operation for the New Suez Canal next Saturday.
He also said that the head of Suez Canal Authority Gen Mohab Mamesh is following up the trial operation’s measures.
The new Suez Canal shipping-route project will be completed before Saturday, according to Mohab Mamesh, head of the Canal Authority.
On Sunday, 97.2 percent of the project was completed, Mamesh said.
Up to 254.740 million cubic meters of water-saturated sand have been dredged so far, the report said. A total 258 million cubic meters should be removed.
The total length of the project is 72 km, according to the website of the Suez Canal Authority. The project will increase the daily average of transiting vessels to 97 ships, up from 49 ships at present. It will also achieve direct unstopped transit for 45 ships in the two directions.
The Bypass's width is now 312 metres, compared to a previous 61 metres.
