TRACE Recognizes Shipping Industry Innovation

March 26, 2015

TRACE named the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), a global business network of companies and associations involved in the maritime industry, the winner of the second annual TRACE Innovation in Anti-Bribery Compliance Award (IACA) for its efforts to create an industry-wide compliance culture through collective action.

With a vision of a maritime industry free of corruption, MACN promotes fair trade practices to the benefit of society at large. The IACA recognizes creative, standard-setting approaches to compliance with international anti-bribery laws.

"MACN sets the standard for excellence in the shipping industry," said Alexandra Wrage, president and founder of TRACE. "The collaborative nature of the network, particularly working collectively with other stakeholders, has proven to be a successful model for other industries and joint initiatives."

TRACE, the leading global anti-bribery standard setting organization, relied on a team of anti-bribery experts and more than a decade of experience benchmarking the best practices of multinational companies to select the winner of the innovation award. Submissions were judged on four criteria: creativity; context and sustainability; alignment with business goals; and applicability to the compliance community at large.

"We are very honoured to receive this award as an appreciation of the work we are doing in MACN," said Cecilia Muller Torbrand, legal counsel of Maersk Group and chair of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network. "This international recognition from a renowned organization like TRACE is very important to MACN, as it helps support, create awareness and promote our agenda."

MACN was presented with its TRACE Innovation Award at the 11th Annual TRACE Forum in Washington, D.C.
