Austrian boatbuilder Frauscher Bootswerft GmbH has chosen Torqeedo to power its line of luxury electric boats and yachts. The Deep Blue inboard motor was selected for the brand new Frauscher 740 Mirage Air that debuted in July 2015, and is also available with Frauscher's 650 Alassio, 680 Lido, 740 Mirage and 750 St. Tropez.

Frauscher, which has cooperated closely with Torqeedo in the field of drive and battery technology since 2005, was impressed with the package put together by Torqeedo, the electric motor manufacturer said. Torqeedo notes a vessel with a Deep Blue drive is emission free and can be used on environmentally sensitive waters.

The partnership represents a logical step with regards to performance, efficiency and safety for Stefan Frauscher, co-CEO, strategic management of Frauscher. "Our boats are aimed at the premium segment in the boating market, which is why we make no compromises when choosing the very best components. There's simply no alternative to Torqeedo's Deep Blue when it comes to safe and fully integrated e-solutions on the water."

Deep Blue provides input power of up to 65 kW and delivers the same propulsive power as an 80 hp gas outboard, the manufacturer said, adding that the system complies with or exceeds the safety standards found in the automotive industry, making it the world's only high-voltage marine drive system in series production. It employs high-performance lithium batteries, which have been modified to excel in demanding marine applications and carry a nine-year capacity warranty. All of Deep Blue's components are waterproofed to IP67. It also features monitoring technology with pilot lines and insulation monitors to safeguard the system against the risk of short circuits.
