IMO Secretary General Koji Sekimizu inaugurated the new Transas technological simulation complex for tanker personnel training installed at the Makarov Training Center, part of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping.
Admiral Makarov State University is a Russian high school for education of maritime and inland professionals. With the new simulation complex from Transas, the school will expand its training portfolio by offering individual and crew training for tanker personnel, both, cadets and seafarers, in compliance with the requirements of STCW convention chapter V and IMO model courses.
Transas liquid cargo handling simulator LCHS 5000 TechSim is intended to train and certify crew members of crude oil tankers, gas and product carriers and terminals, as well as other staff responsible for the safe cargo handling and the operation of auxiliary equipment. The new simulator imitates the cargo handling operator station and provides for all vessel cargo systems study. Transas LCHS 5000 TechSim is an advanced system replicating real vessel and terminal systems and its compartments. With this solution trainees will gain necessary hands-on experience of working with the cargo systems to guarantee uninterrupted operations, which is critical for handling dangerous cargo.
The simulator-based courses include tanker systems familiarization, general arrangement of the tanker and its systems; maintenance of the tanker systems on management level; monitoring systems parameters; control of the monitoring, alarm and recording systems. The simulator allows for training in cargo handling operations in standard and emergency situations; study of vessel and terminal interaction procedures and major maintenance and safety principles.
Instructors of the Makarov training centers have already passed the Transas operational training course.
The opening ceremony was held within the international conference "Maritime Education: Trends and Challenges of the 21st century" organized jointly by the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping and the Federal Marine and River Transport agency, under support of IMO.
