IHC Takes Majority Stakes in Tompkins

July 5, 2016

Royal IHC and Tompkins UK Limited are strengthening their strategic cooperation with IHC’s acquisition of a majority stake in Tompkins, the parent company of Modus Seabed Intervention and a partner in the TI Geosciences joint venture (that IHC and Tompkins created in 2015).

Modus is a specialist provider of remote and autonomous technologies for subsea and seabed intervention. It has industry-leading capabilities in remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services and currently deploys a fleet of work class ROVs and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in construction and drill support, as well as survey and inspection activities.

With its fleet of trenching ROVs and systems, Modus also offers seabed intervention solutions in cable and pipeline trenching, and seabed earthmoving, among others. Modus is also investing in advanced disruptive hybrid AUVs, which will allow it to move into new market segments.

Based on Tompkins’ buoyancy-stabilised, deep-water, deep-push, cone-penetration testing (DWCPT) system, TI Geosciences provides CPT/gravity-coring services. Remote seabed drilling services will be introduced later this year with the first in a range of IHC’s sonic wireline-operated remote drill (SWORD) systems, which is currently being built.

The strong combination of IHC and Tompkins gives customers access to technologically advanced, high-quality, efficient and integrated solutions in seabed data acquisition, management and application through surveying, engineering and intervention.
