The State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College has been named a Best Northeastern College by The Princeton Review for an eighth successive year, as announced by the publishers last week.
Maritime College is one of 226 colleges and universities from an 11-state region that The Princeton Review recommends to college applicants in its 2015 print and online editions.
“Maritime’s selection as a Best Northeastern College by The Princeton Review is particularly rewarding because it is a student-based honor. Our students have reinforced what so many of our alumni who came before them know, that Maritime has a highly dedicated and professional faculty and staff who encourage and engage our students to prepare them for careers as leaders in the maritime industry, “ said Maritime College President, Dr. Michael A. Alfultis.
“The Princeton Review is a highly-respected and nationally-recognized publication used by college-bound students and parents when deciding upon a school to attend. It is a tremendous reflection on everyone here at SUNY Maritime College when our students express such a high level of satisfaction with their college experience at Maritime,” Dr. Alfultis added.
The colleges and universities selected are located in eleven states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and the District of Columbia.
The Princeton Review's Best Northeastern Colleges are chosen based upon institutional data it collects from several hundred schools in each region, from its visits to schools over the years, and from the opinions of independent and high school-based college advisors whose recommendations are solicited.
The Princeton Review also takes into account what each school's students report to them about their campus experiences in an 80-question survey. The survey asks students to rate their schools in several categories, from the accessibility of their professors to the quality of the campus food. It also asks questions about themselves, their fellow students and campus life.
