Sturgeon Bay to be Designated Coast Guard City

May 8, 2014

Representatives from the Coast Guard, the state of Wisconsin and the city of Sturgeon Bay will formally honor Surgeon Bay on its recent designation as a “Coast Guard City,” Saturday at 11 a.m.

Rear Adm. Fred Midgette, commander of the Coast Guard 9th District, and Capt. Matt Sibley, commander of Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan, will be joined by dignitaries, local organizations and citizens of Sturgeon Bay at the proclamation ceremony.

Sturgeon Bay joins 16 cities throughout the nation designated a "Coast Guard City," and the only one in the state of Wisconsin. The designation, endorsed by Congress and the Coast Guard, recognizes the outstanding support the city of Sturgeon Bay provides to Coast Guard personnel and their families. The city actively coordinates community events, recognition, and programs in support of its valued Coast Guard families.
