Hong Kong headquartered Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) attains certification on the accuracy and transparency of its environmental data disclosure.

OOCL was accredited the certification for 2012 after going through an audit conducted by classification society Det Norske Veritas (DNV),  using the internationally recognized and accepted Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) verification standard to check for the carbon dioxide and sulphur oxides emissions of OOCL vessels.

Commenting on the overall assessment of the audit conducted, DNV concluded that OOCL has exemplified how environmentally conscious companies can accurately keep track of their business effects on the environment.

DNV verified that OOCL has kept a clear and correct collection of documentation and records which allow the stored data to be easily and efficiently retrieved for assessment.   As a result of our best practice, not a single discrepancy was identified between the emission data collected in the samples from the randomly selected OOCL vessels by DNV and the data submitted by OOCL towards CCWG measurement and evaluation for the year 2012.

On receiving the environmental data integrity Verification Certificate presented by Mr. Patrick Fong, District Manager of Hong Kong Branch of DNV, Mr. S.C. James Tai, OOCL General Manager of Fleet Management cum Technical Director said, “We are very delighted and proud to receive our certification that verifies the high level of accuracy, transparency and credibility of our environmental data from our environmental reporting system."
