Rolls-Royce contracted to provide integrated design, power & propulsion & equipment package for four Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL offshore supply vessels.

Rolls Royce's  £26 million order is for vessels to be built at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co. Ltd, in China for a Hong Kong owner. The contract includes options for four additional vessels.

This contract is the first time Rolls-Royce has incorporated high speed MTU-engines as part of an integrated power and propulsion package within the successful UT-vessel series.

In addition to ship design, Rolls-Royce will deliver an extensive integrated systems package including: a propulsion system, a power electrical system, a bulk handling system, deck machinery, an automation and control system, as well as a dynamic positioning system that uses satellite technology to automatically maintain the vessels' position without anchoring.

Anders Almestad, Rolls-Royce, President - Offshore, said: "We are very pleased that COSCO have chosen to come back to us with a new customer. This shows that they have confidence in our integrated systems and ship design capabilities.

"The fact that we met customer needs with two separate, yet complementary offers from Rolls-Royce and MTU highlights the potential of our future collaboration."
The four vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2014. At present COSCO group have four other UT-vessels under construction at the COSCO Guangdong ship yard. More than 170 ship owners world wide have UT-vessels in their fleet.
