RCG deepens leadership and capabilities with two senior hires
Two executives from the renewables industry have been appointed by The Renewables Consulting Group (RCG) to oversee the firm’s day-to-day business, develop its global growth strategy and direct short- and long-term planning for the company.
Sebastian Chivers has taken up the role of chief executive officer, and Dr. Lee Clarke as chief operating officer. The duo brings deep industry expertise, particularly in the areas of strategy and management, and together will spearhead the delivery of new, top-tier and cost-effective solutions for the consultancy’s clients, the group said.
Prior to RCG, Chivers spent 12 years as a consultant, project leader and director at renewable energy consultancy PMSS – which was acquired by the testing, inspection, and certification agency the TUV SUD group. Until recently, Chivers was a director and executive board member, responsible for the North America business. Over the years, he has worked with many of the world’s leading developers, turbine vendors, government agencies and private equity and financial services firms. He also served as a member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Wind Vision Offshore Taskforce.
Commenting on his new role, Chivers said, “The global renewable energy sector is going through seismic change and is now progressing at an unprecedented pace and scale. Rapid technology evolution is fuelling cost reduction, investment and access to capital is on the increase and renewable energy is spreading continually to new markets and developing countries.”
He continued, “At RCG, we aim to win new business by listening to clients and putting their needs above everything else, and then providing creative solutions that challenge conventional, out-of-date thinking. We have a clear vision of how to achieve this, and Lee’s experience and recent client’s-eye view from the world’s largest offshore wind development will be essential to us getting there.”
Clarke was previously responsible for leading Forewind Limited – the international consortium of RWE, SSE, Statkraft and Statoil developing the Dogger Bank offshore wind zone – where he served as General Manager and Project Director. Prior to Forewind, Clarke was a Project Director and Senior Corporate Strategy Manager at RWE, and held senior leadership and management roles at E.ON and TXU Europe. He has experience in power generation, energy markets and mergers and acquisition, and a track record in developing corporate strategy, building organizations and managing ongoing operations.

The company plans to announce the appointment of a nonexecutive chairman in the coming weeks as it further strengthens its offering.
