NYK Recognised Again as "Nadeshiko Brand"

April 6, 2015

NYK was named “Nadeshiko Brand,” for the second consecutive year, following fiscal 2013, selected jointly by the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI).

Nadeshiko Brand is composed of companies that encourage women’s success in the workplace, including the development of environments in which women are able to further their careers, as well as the promotion of utilizing women resources, and that are superior in their financial index. Nadeshiko Brand companies are selected from those listed on the first section of the TSE on an industry basis, and are introduced as attractive brands for investors who attach high value to mid- to long-term improvement in corporate value.

NYK has been promoting an implementation of systems and a creation of work environments where the company’s employees, regardless of gender, can actively participate. This includes integration of its personnel management system in 2001, which annulled occupational classification as “management track” or “general clerical work,” and, the company’s establishment of an in-house childcare facility in 2002 as the first such case in Central Tokyo to support employees’ work-life balance. Moreover, female managers account for approximately 15% of total managers in NYK. In fiscal 2013, NYK establish a special division “Staff Development and Employment Initiating Chamber” within human resources group with the aim of encouraging women to develop their careers and also introduced a system to balance work and family, so that employees can take a maximum three-year leave when spouse is transferred to a remote place. These efforts were highly evaluated by TSE and METI and led to NYK being granted the Nadeshiko Brand designation.

NYK will continue to further develop frameworks in Japan and overseas to enable diverse personnel, including women, to fully exhibit their potentials in the workplace.
