Port of Tacoma Top US Port for 2012 Growth Says Report

April 24, 2013

Trade intelligence company, Zepol Corporation, releases a report analyzing the trade activity for the top 20 ports in the United States.

Four key insights found in the report:
1. The top port in the U.S. by a landslide, the Port of Los Angeles, surpassed all other ports by over 1 million TEUs (twenty-foot-containers) and over 500,000 shipments.
2. Based on TEU volume, 11 of the top 20 ports posted positive growth from 2011 to 2012.
3. The Port of Tacoma saw the greatest growth in 2012, with a TEU increase of 29% from 2011.
4. The top 20 ports account for 97% of all TEU imports into the United States.

“Back by popular demand, Zepol’s latest Port Report provides insights for transportation companies, importers and exporters, steamship lines, and suppliers,” says Zepol’s CEO Paul Rasmussen. “More recently, trade professionals are seeing a growing need to stay informed on what’s happening at the ports, and this report definitely gives details on what’s happening from a performance standpoint.”

Each port profile contains a trend of imports by month, a list of key importers and master carriers, and the top source countries sending goods to that specific port. In addition, commentary for each port highlights what happened, in terms of imports, for 2012.

The information in this report was derived from Zepol’s trade intelligence tools, TradeIQ Import and TradeView. The tools are online subscription-based products that provide insights into who is importing and exporting to and from the United States.
