Panama Canal Authority Receives Honors

September 9, 2009

In honor of his leadership, Panama Canal Authority (ACP) Administrator/CEO Alberto Alemán Zubieta received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Lloyd’s List. Presented at the publication’s Global Awards ceremony in London, the award is given on an annual basis to an individual who has dedicated his or her life's work to furthering the development of the maritime industry.

The ACP’s Center for Simulation, Research and Maritime Development (SIDMAR) also received the Lloyd’s List “Training Award” for its leadership in elevating the quality of maritime education and training. For more than 20 years, SIDMAR has been responsible for the training of all Canal operations personnel including ACP pilots, tugboat captains, seamen and launch operators. SIDMAR also provides ongoing supplemental training to the Canal’s staff and coordinates education programs for private and public naval schools in Panama.
