Navplay's Debuts Experience Maker

October 9, 2014

NavPlay, an innovative manufacturer of iPad apps for boaters, announced today its revolutionary story telling functionality, Experience Maker. A unique and innovative feature that is exclusive to the NavPlay app, this new feature gives boaters the ability to share moments of and during their journeys using their iPads. Leveraging the power of the LogBook and Alarm Manager environments, Experience Maker provides an easy-to-use interface for boaters to capture the truly personal details of their adventures, relive each moment and share their journeys with shipmates, family and friends.

A complete, easy-to-use navigation app for iPads, NavPlay allows boaters to plan routes and navigate on C-Map by Jeppesen charts and satellite imagery. The innovative product provides access to a wealth of WiFi-networked vessel information and control such as instruments readings, weather forecasts, autopilot operation, alarms and AIS details for collision avoidance, to name a few.

“Although there are several navigation apps currently on the market, NavPlay is the first and only to be designed specifically with the boater in mind,” said Andrea Buralli, sales and marketing manager, NavPlay. “Mariners, whether sailor, pleasure boater or fisherman, don’t just go to sea, they come back with stories to tell. Now, NavPlay not only provides excellent navigation and control, but also empowers boaters with the tools to tell those fantastic stories.”

Using the Experience Maker environment, boaters are able to take pictures and video with their iPads, directly in the NavPlay app. Information such as vessel position, speed, direction, shallow water or high wind speed alarms, and new routes and waypoints can then be imported from the LogBook and Alarms Manager environments. Once the data is compiled, captions or descriptions can be added to create a georeferenced narrative. These detailed virtual memories can be produced while underway from anywhere on the boat or ashore after the trip is done. Pictures and video taken in the NavPlay app can also be used without encryption or restrictions like other pictures taken with the iPad camera for emailing, messaging and uploading via social media.

Pricing and Availability:

The Navplay app has a cost of $4.99. The Experience Maker and LogBook environments are included in the product download.

The navigation features including Alarms Manager are available during the initial 15-day trial period, when using the Vesper Marine promo code, or with a 15-day or annual subscription priced at $14.99 and $44.99 respectively.

The NavPlay app is available for download from the Apple App Store in English, Italian, French and German, and is compatible with Apple iPad2, iPad3, iPad4, iPad mini and iPad Air models running iOS 6.0 or greater. C-Map by Jeppesen charts are not included, but can be easily purchased from NavPlay using the Jeppesen Marine tool located in the ‘Service’ section of the NavPlay app. NavPlay includes a worldwide vector background map to ensure usability when boaters do not have add-on mapping. Satellite images are only available while connected to the Internet.
