Marlink KU-Band Services, North Sea Region

October 22, 2009

Marlink has expanded its Ku-band coverage to the North Sea. The coverage expansion will enable Marlink to offer WaveCall(T) to customers operating in the region. The introduction of WaveCall(T) in the Northern Europe region will provide significant cost savings to companies requiring VSAT with lower bandwidth.

"WaveCall(T) provides always-on, reliable connectivity but with lower costs than Marlink's high-end Sealink(T) solution. For companies only operating in the North Sea region that do not require the exceptionally high bandwidth that Sealink(T) offers, WaveCall(T) is a cost-effective solution," said Tore Morten Olsen, CEO, Marlink.

Marlink's WaveCall(T) Ku-band VSAT provides data rates from 128 kbps to 1024 kbps for shore-to-vessel communications and 128 kbps to 256 kbps for vessel-to-shore communications. Customers operating only in the North Sea can benefit from low cost communications as pooled bandwidth is used to minimize costs and capacity can be reduced during low seasons. Furthermore, Marlink is offering a number of cost-effective airtime and hardware bundles depending on service level required.

The latest WaveCall(T) development from Marlink offers a special benefit to the offshore oil and gas industry in the North Sea. Satellite communications enables increased efficiency of a multitude of critical offshore applications, including real-time data management and data sharing with sites ashore. The introduction of WaveCall(T) as a cost-effective solution will enable greater use of VSAT services, therefore improving business efficiency in what is a challenging operational environment.
