Maritime Industry Gathers to Address Cyber Security Threats

 

Teo Chin Hock, Senior Advisor, Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), delivered the keynote address. In his speech, Mr Teo outlined the concerns of cyber incidents leading to disruption and highlighted the broad mitigating strategies. Businesses were also advised to raise cyber security risks “to the boardroom.”

 

Other cyber security thought leaders sharing their expertise and experience at the seminar included Mr Philip Tinsley, Security Manager, Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO); Mr Sam Goh, President (Singapore Chapter), International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2); and Mr Hoo Chuan Wei, APAC Technical Advisor, ISC2. 

 

The audience, comprising representatives from the region’s maritime companies and beyond, were presented with real-life case studies on how the industry can successfully counter cyber security threats, and also participated in a workshop on how to assess a company’s current cyber security posture.

We believe it is time for the industry to now pay closer attention to this emerging risk. The inaugural Cyber Security Seminar at Singapore Maritime Week 2016 seeks to raise awareness of the need to be vigilant and to catalyse discussions on best practices to mitigate the risks posed by cyber security threats,” said Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) Chief Executive, Andrew Tan.

It is therefore timely that the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and Singapore Shipping Association are co-organising this seminar. With the support of cyber security practitioners, this seminar is aimed at raising awareness and sharing valuable insights for us to remain ahead of the curve in building more robust capabilities for the maritime industry to prevent and manage cyber threats.” said Esben Poulsson, President of the Singapore Shipping Association.
