The Port of San Diego celebrated the inaugural visit of Grieg Star's 'Star Laguna' with a plaque exchange ceremony.

The Star Laguna, one of the newest cargo ships visiting San Diego, called at Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal, where it offloaded 10,000 tons of fertilizer and four yachts. Owned by the Grieg Star shipping company based in Bergen, Norway, the Star Laguna will make regular visits to San Diego.

"The Port's cargo business makes an important contribution to our region's economic prosperity as part of the worldwide system of goods movement," said Commissioner Marshall Merrifield of the Board of Port Commissioners, who presented the plaque to Star Laguna Captain Dave V. Osunero. "The Grieg Star shipping company is among our most important cargo partners, and I'm pleased to welcome one of its newest and most modern vessels to our Port.

The Port of San Diego is the fourth largest port in the state of California, and number one when it comes to specialty cargo that requires careful handling.

    •    Lumber
    •    Steel products
    •    Utility-scale cargo

The Port of San Diego is a main conduit for imports and exports to San Diego, Imperial, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, plus Northern Baja California, Arizona and other points East.
