MacGregorto Optimize Cargo Handling for 5 Container Ships

April 1, 2016

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has received an order to provide loose lashings for five 10,500 TEU Hapag-Lloyd container ships under construction in South Korea by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. This order builds on a previous contract, which MacGregor announced in September 2015, and completes the vessels optimised MacGregor cargo handling solution. The order was booked into first quarter 2016 order intake.

The new container ships are scheduled for delivery to the German owner and operator between October 2016 and May 2017. The MacGregor cargo handling solution for container vessels will ensure that Hapag Lloyd will get the most cargo efficient containerships of its size in the world, optimised for the actual operation conditions. The solution consists of analytics, services, hardware and lifecycle support, all optimised at an early stage to maximise the vessels actual cargo carrying capacity.

"Loose lashings are the vital 'hands-on' component of a container ship's cargo system, but the key for success is to optimize the whole system as one" says Jens Fuge, Area Marketing Manager at MacGregor. "In this challenging container shipping market there is no room for mediocre container ships designs, maximum cargo density capacity is required to stay profitable," he adds.

MacGregor will support Hapag-Lloyd in achieving the vessels' full cargo carrying potential via a training programme for crew and land-based personnel. Once a vessel enters service, MacGregor will analyse the cargo system performance and offer guidance where necessary.

MacGregor markets its optimised full cargo system solutions for container ships under the name MacGregor PlusPartner.
