IACS member classification society the Korean Register (KR) informs of the release of SeaTrust-HullScan, its ground-breaking software solution to analyze and appraise a vessel’s hull structure in accordance with the new harmonized common structural rules (CSR-H).

(CSR-H is an integrated set of rules in which CSR-BC (Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers) and CSR-OT (Common Structural Rules for Oil Tankers) are brought together, It will be applied to bulk carriers of more than 90m in length and oil tankers of more than 150m in length which operate in international waters and are contracted to be built after 1 July, 2015).

SeaTrust–HullScan is a brand new ship design support program that enables ship designers and ship builders to accurately apply IACS CSR-H and all subsequent amendments when designing and constructing a vessel. The software optimizes a ship’s design structure by implementing an accurate calculation according to the new rules and generating results that are as close as possible to the target standards set by the user.

Automatic modeling in fine mesh analysis and fatigue strength assessment offers enhanced modeling speeds and improved design. Rule loading, corrosion additions and boundary conditions are three basic elements for carrying out direct strength assessments and these are automatically generated. Automation of the entire process leads to a faster integration of the buckling assessment which dramatically saves time and resources.

KR explain that SeaTrust–HullScan was developed in-house and has been rigorously verified with the major Korean shipyards from joint industry projects. It has already won support from the industry for its outstanding user friendliness.

On announcing the release, Jeong-ryul Lee, general manager of KR’s IT Convergence Research Team said : “We have strengthened the user-support function within the program by adding a feedback facility which enables problem solving within 24 hours. We will continue to develop the program and provide additional functions to reinforce the value it adds to hull structure analysis”
