Harris CapRock Fulfill Major Cruise Line Satcom Contract

May 1, 2013

Harris CapRock has completed fleet installation of its managed communications solutions onboard 33 Royal Caribbean Cruise vessels.

Since the start of the project, the company has removed 48 legacy antennas, installed 86 new ones in ports all around the world and procured more than 59,000 individual components for the project. Harris CapRock has developed a new “card-less” crew-calling kiosk and voice platform which the Royal Caribbean crew has used to make more than three million calls totalling more than 24 million minutes to date.

Highlights:
    •    New systems significantly improve voice, video and data services.
    •    Solution includes 24/7 proactive monitoring and support from Harris CapRock’s global Customer Support Centers.
    •    Enables high-bandwidth services to the world’s largest and most innovative cruise ships.

Harris was awarded the contract in April 2012, to provide communications services onboard Royal Caribbean’s fleet for its Royal Caribbean International®, Celebrity Cruises® and Azamara Club Cruises® brands.

In nine months Harris CapRock completed the process, which included the de-installation and installation of more than 120 large antenna systems onboard the fleet. Each ship was equipped with Harris CapRock’s SpaceTrack™ stabilized antenna systems, which deliver more than five times the amount of bandwidth previously available. The solution combines Ku-band and C-band connectivity to maximize service availability and avoid downtime.

Harris CapRock Communications is a leading global provider of managed satellite and terrestrial communications solutions, specifically for remote and harsh environments including the maritime, energy and government markets.
