Richard L. Furman, Esq., member of Carroll McNulty & Kull LLC (CMK) of New York, has authored “Cargo Transportation Security: Legislation and Regulation Through 2009,” a pamphlet published by Matthew Bender.

The terror attacks on September 11, 2001, made clear the need for comprehensive and integrated cargo and transportation security laws and regulations. Furman’s pamphlet discusses the principal legislation and regulations currently in effect, directed at cargo, port, vessel and facility transportation security. Those include provisions of the Maritime Transportation Security Act 2002, the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act of 2006, the Aviation and Transportation Security Act and Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007, among others.

Furman possesses extensive experience in the representation and litigation on behalf of companies engaged in international and domestic transportation and trade, and is a recognized authority in these areas. He currently serves as the United States general counsel to a number of global transportation service companies tending to their transportation, regulatory, and commercial interests. Throughout his years of practice, he has worked with insurance companies and brokers, non-vessel operating common carriers, domestic and international indirect air carriers, truckers, warehousemen, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and importers and exporters.

In 2008, Furman joined CMK, a full-service law firm with offices in Basking Ridge, N.J., and New York City. Founded in 1997, the firm provides legal counseling and representation to clients of all sizes nationwide, ranging from Fortune 100 companies, insurers, and construction companies to closely held corporations, family-owned businesses and individuals. Primary practice areas include admiralty, maritime, transportation, and international trade; insurance coverage; construction and surety; insurance defense; commercial disputes and business counseling; and employment.
