October 19, 2016

BRP announced today that its Evinrude brand, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s School of Freshwater Sciences, has awarded the first two BRP/Evinrude Water Research Excellence Fellowships.

The $5,000 fellowships were given to Brennan Dow and Christopher Suchocki to support their tuition at the school. The fellowships are highly competitive and are awarded to students conducting outstanding research that will help protect and preserve the world’s fragile water resources. Dow’s research focuses on ecosystem improvement through detailed local underwater mapping , while Suchocki is researching new ways to rehabilitate natural fisheries by reducing the pressures on wild fish populations.

Evinrude’s support of the Freshwater Sciences program aligns perfectly with the brand’s strategic initiatives for clean technology. The Evinrude E-TEC G2 series of outboard engines combine s thrilling performance with the most intelligent design and the cleanest outboard engine combustion technology available. The new Evinrude E -TEC G2 models deliver up to 30% more torque, up to 15% better fuel efficiency, and up to 75% fewer total regulated emissions compared to leading four -stroke outboard engines.

“We are pleased to assist these two bright students in their important research efforts,” said Krista Sparkes, Vice President, Sales North America, BRP’s Marine Propulsion Systems division.“The work that Brennan and Christopher are undertaking will not only have a dramatic impact on the local environment, but will also help set the tone for future partnerships between researchers and ecologically -conscious companies like BRP.”

“The Evinrude engines provided to the UW-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences have delivered a cost - effective means for me to conduct my mapping project,” stated award - winner Brennan Dow. “The fellowship funds will also be instrumental in allowing me to complete my research. I am very grateful for this opportunity and thankful for all BRP/Evinrude has done for the school.”
