Entries Being Accepted for Inaugural 2014 SHIPPINGInsight Award

May 22, 2014

Entries are now being accepted for the inaugural SHIPPINGInsight Award, to be presented during the SHIPPINGInsight 2014 Fleet Optimization Conference, Sept. 30 through Oct. 2, 2014 in Stamford, Conn.

The award will honor a ship operating company and its technology partners for the successful implementation of an innovative technology or initiative that reduced operating costs and improved operating efficiencies. A panel of independent judges, including maritime journalists, academics and third-party experts, will select the winner, and the award will be presented at a gala awards luncheon, Oct. 1. “Results are often derived from collaborative efforts of multiple parties working together to achieve the desired goals,” said SHIPPINGInsight co-director Jim Rhodes. “For that reason, the award will be presented to all the parties who played a major role in the project.”

Judges will evaluate entries based on the following criteria:

  • What results were achieved?  Results must be cited as quantifiable metrics.
  • How did the solution use innovative technology to solve the problem?
  • How did the solution advance the state-of-the-art in fleet and ship optimization?

“We recognize that companies may be reluctant to disclose sensitive data publicly,” said Rhodes. “Any information submitted with award entries will be held in strictest confidence by the judges and will not be released without express written permission.”

Award submissions should be in the form of a case study, and projects must have been completed within calendar year 2013 or 2014. Entries may be submitted by either the shipping company or its technology partners, and must be received no later than July 15, 2014.  Entry forms may be downloaded at www.shippinginsight.com/awards.

Entering its third year, SHIPPINGInsight 2014 attracts maritime industry executives from around the world with a focus on practical solutions for the challenges facing ship operators. This year’s event is expanded with the addition of a dedicated Marine LNG Symposium, Sept. 30, to precede the Fleet Optimization Conference, Oct. 1-2.

Online registration is now open. Delegates can register for the Marine LNG Symposium, the Fleet Optimization Conference or both.  Attendees are encouraged to register now to take advantage of substantial Early-Bird discounts.

Edward Scott, chief operating officer of Excelerate Energy, will give the keynote address for the Marine LNG Symposium. Jim Watson, president and chief operating officer of ABS Americas, and Michael Wilson, president and chief operating officer of Laurin Maritime (Americas), are the keynote speakers for the Fleet Optimization Conference. More than 30 senior-level executives from major shipping companies have confirmed participation as moderators or panelists. In addition, there will be speakers from major classification societies and other industry experts.
