Corvus Energy Opens Office in Bergen

October 15, 2015

Corvus Energy, a supplier of Type-Approved energy storage systems (ESS) for the commercial maritime industry is proud to announce the opening of Corvus Norway AS.

Corvus Norway AS is at the forefront of a new trend in the marine industry, the adaptation of hybrid-electric propulsion technology.  Hybridized vessels provide ship owners with a rapid return on investment with immediate savings in fuel and maintenance costs and significantly reduced emissions. These benefits, along with new dynamic positioning Class rules that allow large-scale battery systems as functional equivalents to generator sets, will strongly encourage new and existing vessels to implement a hybrid solution.

Corvus Norway AS will be led by Halvard Hauso, Executive Vice-President Sales and Marketing. Hal has over 30 years of industrial marine business development experience, most recently serving as Senior Vice President of Rolls-Royce Marine, leading the Power Electric System department. Other key personnel include: Ronald Hansen, Service & Commissioning Manager; Roger Rosvold, Sales Manager; and Jacob Hauge, Sales Engineer & Technical Support. The team adds 100 years of marine experience to Corvus’ organization.  The new office is located in Nordnes, the historic waterfront peninsula in the city centre of Bergen.

“It's very nice to build something, when so many these days have to downsize,” says Halvard Hauso, Corvus EVP Sales and Marketing.  “much of the development on the use of battery power occurs in Norway and Northern Europe.  It is therefore very important for Corvus to be part of the Norwegian maritime cluster."

Many of the ground breaking electric and hybrid projects for the marine industry powered by Corvus Energy battery systems are in Northern Europe: MF Ampere, the world’s first fully electric car ferry; TESO Texelstroom, world’s greenest passenger ferry; and the SELFA EL-MAX, the world’s first all-electric fishing boat.

"At Corvus, we strongly believe that we will see increased modification of existing vessels that will reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Being closer to our customers makes sense.” Hauso added.

“The opening of the new European office shows our ongoing commitment to developing superior relationships with our technology partners and customers by having a regional market presence represented by an outstanding and experienced Corvus Norway team” said Andrew Morden, President & CEO of Corvus.
