MOL Closing in on Steady 90% Performance Target

April 18, 2013

MOL (America) Inc. announce intermodal transit on-time performance results for January-March 2013.

MOL’s overall intermodal transit on-time performance was 71% for January-March 2013, for the three origin ports in Asia, to the six inland destinations in the United States.

MOL did not perform at or above the 90% target for any of the origin/destination combinations in January-March 2013. However, the result for the PSX to Memphis was 87% and the result for the PCX to Dallas was 86%.  Overall performance was impacted by:
•    Late arriving vessels. PCX (three vessels at least 20 hours late and one vessel 87 hours late) and PSX (two vessels 40 hours late).
•    Chassis shortages, shortened work weeks due to holidays, labor disruptions and increased IPI volume due to labor concerns. These issues were most pronounced around and after the holidays and took a period of time to catch up with the backlog. Overall intermodal transit on-time performance improved in February (88%) and March (81%) versus January (49%).

It should be noted that:
•    The PSX met the 90% KPI target in February and was 86% in March after performance was 46% in January.
•    Our rail performance, measured independently from vessel performance, was 97% in these PCX lanes.
•    Our rail performance, measured independently from vessel performance, was 97% in these PSX lanes.

MOL will continue to work with their rail partners and address specifics of operation with the terminals to improve performance.

MOL say that they also report vessel on-time performance in a separate quarterly report.
