Caterpillar Marine today announced the open order board of the Cat 3516C United States EPA Tier 4 propulsion, auxiliary and diesel electric propulsion (DEP) power solutions.

In addition to being EPA Tier 4 certified, the 3516C solutions are IMO II certified and IMO III compliant. The Cat 3516C Tier 4 certified engine is available in a ‘B’ rating of 2,240 bKW at 1,800 rpm and a ‘C’ rating of 2350 bKW at 1,800 rpm. An auxiliary engine is available in a rating of 2,250 ekW at 1,800 rpm. Finally, the diesel electric propulsion solution is available in a 2,250 eKW rating at 1,800 rpm. Caterpillar  said its Cat 3516C Tier 4 certified marine power solutions are best suited for customers in the tug and salvage and offshore industries.

Cat Tier 4 marine technology utilizes after treatment combined with an optimized engine to meet the low NOx regulations. Manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, the Cat 3516C Tier 4 certified solutions employ the Cat Clean Emissions Module which incorporates selective catalyst reduction (SCR) technology aimed to provide customers with the lowest possible owning and operating costs. Inclusion of SCR technology enables customer to leverage shared components as well as a similar engine footprint to EPA Tier 2 and Tier 3 engines.

“The Cat 3516C Tier 4 certified solutions offer vessel owners enhanced vessel integration options, serviceability and the lowest cost of ownership,” Jason Spear, Caterpillar Marine product definition engineer stated. “The 3500 engine platform has developed an incredible reputation in the commercial marine industry as a rugged and reliable powerhorse and we’re pleased to offer our customers more offerings from the legendary 3500 family.”

The Cat 3516C Tier 4 solutions are sold and supported through the global Cat dealer network. Caterpillar said additional Tier 4 platforms will be launched in the near future.
